UCC Office of General Ministries

The Office of General Ministries is one of four Covenanted Ministries in the United Church of Christ. Its mission is to care for the spiritual life, unity, and well-being of the church, to nurture our covenantal life and its ecumenical and interfaith relationships, to provide regular processes which focus on theological reflection throughout the church; and to assist in the total mission of the UCC.

UCC Justice and Witness Ministries

Justice and Witness Ministries, one of four Covenanted Ministries in the United Church of Christ, helps local congregations and all settings of the church respond to God’s commandments to do justice, seek peace and effect change for a better world. The work of Justice and Witness Ministries is guided by the pronouncements and resolutions approved by the United Church of Christ General Synod.

Torture is the worst agony that one human being can inflict on another. Whether physical or psychological, torture is destructive of the human spirit for both the tortured person and the torturer. As people of faith, we believe that each human being is made in the image and likeness of God. When someone tortures another child of God, they torture Christ.

The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM)

Council for Racial and Ethnic Ministries (COREM)

COREM was created to advocate for racial and ethnic concerns within the UCC. It is composed of representatives from the following groups:

    The Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM)

    CAIM is an integral part of the life of the United Church of Christ. CAIM maintains Indian traditions by employing Native values and cultures to witness in Indian communities through authentic and post-colonial Indian expressions of the Christian faith. CAIM is a gathering “place” for all UCC Indian people who seek such a place.

    The Council for Hispanic Ministries

    Council for Hispanic Ministries (CHM) is an autonomous body working cooperatively with Council Regions and Associations, Conferences, and Ministries of the UCC to promote its work among Hispanics/Latinos/Latinas in the United States of America, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other nations of the Caribbean, Central and South America.

    Pacific Islanders and Asian American Ministries (PAAM)

    PAAM is comprised of 231 multi-ethnic churches across 6 regions of the United States. These regions include Hawaii, Northern California, Southern California, Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and East. PAAM was organized in 1974 to unite and move forward at the national, regional and local levels as Pacific Islanders and Asian Americans in the United Church of Christ, sharing our unique gifts with one another.

    United Black Christians

    UBC represents lay and clergy persons who faithfully minister in more than 278 predominately African American congregations of the United Church of Christ and those African American members in congregations that are not predominately African American.

    Ministers for Racial, Social and Economic Justice (MRSEJ)

    MRSEJ are an association of Christian ministers that actively pursues political resolution of Racial, Social and Economic Justice issues.

UCC Coalition for Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Concerns

The Coalition provides support and sanctuary to all our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender sisters and brothers, their families and friends; advocates for their full inclusion in church and society; and brings Christ's affirming message of love and justice for all people.

Ecumenical and Organizations and Partners

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

In 1989 the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) approved a historic partnership of full communion. The two churches proclaimed mutual recognition of their sacraments and ordained ministry. Though remaining two distinct denominations, the UCC and Disciples have committed through their partnership to seek opportunities for common ministry, especially where work together will enhance the mission of the church. Jubilee USA Network

Jubilee USA Network is an alliance of churches, diverse faith communities, and labor, environmental, solidarity, and community organizations. They aim to build a grassroots movement to achieve the complete cancellation of debt owed by countries with high levels of human need, the cancellation of odious debt, and an end to the imposition of economic policies as a condition for debt relief. Jubilee USA promotes its mission through public education, grassroots organizing, media outreach, policy analysis and advocacy.

Lombard Mennonite Peace Center offers a variety of training events and workshops around the country.

Center on Conscience & War

The Center on Conscience & War (CCW), formerly the National Interreligious Service Board for Conscientious Objectors (NISBCO), was formed in 1940 by an association of religious bodies. CCW works to defend and extend the rights of conscientious objectors. The Center is committed to supporting all those who question participation in war, whether they are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, documented or undocumented immigrants--or citizens in other countries.

The Save Darfur Coalition

The Save Darfur Coalition is an alliance of over 100 diverse faith-based, humanitarian, and human rights organizations that was formed in response to the massive crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Interfaith Committee on Homelessness for Washington County (Oregon)

The Interfaith Committee on Homelessness in Washington County is comprised of representatives from many concerned churches that work to increase awareness, raise funding and offer support for the family shelters in Washington County, Oregon.

Friends for Peace

An online campaign to show the faces and commitment of the pro-peace majority in a nonpartisan public witness to end the war in Iraq. Friends for Peace is a project of the American Friends Service Committee.

American Friends Service Committee

The American Friends Service Committee carries out service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the world. Founded by Quakers in 1917 to provide conscientious objectors with an opportunity to aid civilian war victims, AFSC's work attracts the support and partnership of people of many races, religions, and cultures.

Progressive Christians Uniting

Progressive Christians Uniting (PCU) are members of congregations committed to peace, justice, a radical welcome and inclusion, and all those similar issues which reflect God’s commonwealth as articulated by Jesus. All of us work together for the common good, and for a more peaceful, just world.

NewCenter for Intercultural Organizing

The Center for Intercultural Organizing in Portland, Oregon is a diverse, grassroots organization working to build a multi-racial, multicultural movement for immigrant and refugee rights.

NewNational Religious Campaign Against Torture

NRCAT is a growing membership organization committed to ending U.S.-sponsored torture, and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Since its formation in January 2006, over 130 religious groups have joined NRCAT, including representatives from the Roman Catholic, evangelical Christian, mainline Protestant, Unitarian, Quaker, Orthodox Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh communities.

Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

TransFamily

TransFamily is a support group for transgendered and transsexual people, their parents, partners, children, other family members, friends, and supportive others. We provide referrals, literature, and over-the-phone information on all transgender issues.

Basic Rights Oregon

Activists awakened by anti-GLBT campaigns formed BRO with the vision to build a movement that could defend against attacks, but would also build a pro-active movement brought real change to Oregon.

NewHuman Rights Campaign

The Human Rights Campaign represents a grassroots force of more than 700,000 members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, HRC envisions an America where GLBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
