Pride 2025 Around the CPC!
As Pride gatherings throughout the cities of our conference begin to be scheduled, there will be many opportunities to show up in support of our queer beloved ones. They need to know we see them and stand with them. We will try to keep an updated schedule here so that as you travel you can plan ahead. Next month we will have details about our Portland Interfaith participation. If you have more info to publish please send to: paulasohl@gmail.com

*The congregations of Bethlehem Lutheran and St. Mark’s Lutheran invite you to share in a joint ministry in service to and support of our LQBTQIA siblings here in Portland, Oregon during the Pride Festival. It is a booth called Sacred Space, and in it pastoral and lay volunteers offer a place of quiet where festival participants can receive Holy communion, share their stories, put on a temporary tattoo (and sometimes receive a hug), drink a cup of cold water, and can hear that God loves them. This year it takes place at the Portland Pride Festival at Waterfront Park July 19-20, 2025. There are two ways you can help:
Volunteer time to work a shift in the booth over the two days of the festival. (We will set a training day closer to the event). This could be done by circulating a volunteer signup to your congregation, or by approaching a particular ministry team. The goal is to have one clergy member and 1-2 lay leaders for a two-three hour shift. Those interested in volunteering can contact office@smpdx.org to schedule the training and coordinate sign ups.
Financial support to cover the cost of the booth rental and supplies. Supplies include Communion bread, wine, and juice, bottled water, temporary tattoos, sunblock and stickers. This could be in the form asking your congregation for a special offering, or making a grant request to a ministry or endowment fund. Financial donations can be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, c/o St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 5415 SE Powell Blvd. Portland, Oregon 97206.
Here's the Signup Genius for volunteering at Sacred Space at Portland Pride:

Everyone who volunteers is expected to attend one of the Saturday trainings. Each time slot has a space for a Clergy person as well as lay volunteers. We want clergy in every time slot.
