CPC Moderator Lea Mathieu Talks About Giving to the Friends of the Conference

The world tells us that contemplation and action are fundamentally at odds, but in Jesus’ repeated pattern of withdrawing to pray before re-entering the city to teach, heal, and comfort, we see how two seemingly opposite ways of being complement each other. When the world is so divided, the Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ (that’s you, and me, and all of us together!) is a powerful witness that contemplatives can and do accomplish much. Your partnership in prayer and proclamation is vital to the conference’s call to strengthen and serve.

Supporting search committees as they thoughtfully vet candidates. Creating an atmosphere of both reverence and new experience for our youth attending Camp Adams and Pilgrim Cove. Sinking deep into prayer as we continue to move toward becoming an anti-racist conference in all our gatherings. These and so many more opportunities for contemplation and action are made possible by your support.

That’s why I’m asking for your financial support for the Friends of the Conference. Your gift of $100, $250 or $500 will significantly impact our financial goals. If those are out of reach for you, a gift of any amount is so appreciated. You can give electronically at cpcucc.org/donate, or give by check at PO Box 22588 Portland, OR 97269 (put “Friends of the Conference” in the memo).

In the CPCUCC, we are doing work no one else can do. It is our deep joy to partner with you in moving that work forward. Thank you for all you are able to give.

Peace and all good,
Rev. Lea Mathieu, Moderator
Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ
